Do I need to book an MOT in advance?
It's always best to book ahead to guarantee a slot, especially during busy periods (March, August, September). You can call us on 01475 600707 or message us on Facebook to arrange a time. Walk-ins are welcome but may need to wait if we're busy.
How long does an MOT take?
A standard Class 4 MOT takes around 45–60 minutes. We recommend allowing up to 90 minutes if you're waiting. If you need a lift into town while we work on your car, just ask.
What if my car fails the MOT?
If your vehicle fails, we'll explain exactly what's wrong and provide a detailed quote for the repairs. If you choose to have us do the work, you only pay for the retest fee (usually free within 10 working days if we do the repairs). There's no pressure — we'll give you the quote and the choice is yours.
Do you service all makes and models?
Yes — we service all makes and models of cars and light commercial vehicles. Whether it's a Ford Fiesta, a BMW 3 Series, or a VW Transporter, we have the expertise and equipment to handle it.
What's included in a full service?
Our full service includes: engine oil and filter change, air filter check/replacement, spark plug check (where due), brake inspection, tyre condition and pressure check, fluid top-ups (coolant, screen wash, brake fluid), steering and suspension check, lights and electrical check, and a road test. We also provide a vehicle health check report so you know the overall condition of your car.
Can you fit tyres I've bought elsewhere?
Yes, we can fit tyres supplied by third parties. We charge a fitting fee per tyre which includes balancing, valve replacement, and disposal of your old tyres. However, we recommend letting us supply the tyres too — we can often match or beat online prices, and you get the benefit of our warranty on the whole job.
What tyre brands do you stock?
We supply a wide range from premium brands (Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental) through to mid-range (Hankook, Kumho, Falken) and value options. We'll recommend the right tyre for your car, your driving style, and your budget — no upsell to premium if budget makes more sense for your use.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, debit cards, and credit cards. All major cards are accepted. Payment is taken on completion of the work.
Can I wait while my car is being worked on?
Yes, you're welcome to wait. We have a small waiting area. For longer jobs like a full service or complex repairs, we can also arrange a lift to/from Greenock town centre if you'd rather drop the car and come back.
Do you offer any warranty on repairs?
Yes — all parts and labour supplied by West Autos come with a warranty. The specific terms depend on the part manufacturer, but we stand behind our work. If something goes wrong with a repair we've done, bring it back and we'll sort it out.
Is there parking near the garage?
Yes, there is on-street parking available on Bruce Street and surrounding streets. We can also usually accommodate dropping your car off directly at the garage — just give us a call to arrange a convenient time.
Are you open on weekends?
We're open Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for drop-offs and light work. We recommend booking Saturday slots in advance as they fill up quickly. We're closed on Sundays.
